Registration

The CPAT Orientation on October 9th will take place at Lockwood Fire District, located at 501 Johnson Lane, Billings, MT 59101. The orientation will be held in the building directly behind the fire station. Parking is available on the north side of the fire station.

• The deadline to register for this orientation is noon on October 8th, 2026.

The CPAT orientation, practice test, and test will take place December 11–13, 2026, at the MetraPark Pavilion, located at 308 6th Avenue North, Billings, MT 59101.

• The deadline to register for the orientation, practice test, and test is midnight on December 3, 2026.
• Testing timeslots will be released in phases, beginning with Saturday morning. As those timeslots fill, additional times will be made available for Saturday afternoon, followed by Sunday.

The CPAT standards require that candidates have the opportunity to attend an orientation session and a timed practice test. Candidates may choose to sign a formal Waiver of CPAT Pre-Test Form to skip the orientation and practice sessions, though organizations strongly encourage attendance—especially for first-time testers.

The physical ability test administered by the Montana Firefighter Testing Consortium is the International Association of Firefighters (IAFF)/International Association of Fire Chiefs (IAFC) Candidate Physical Ability Test© (CPAT).

CPAT Orientation is a walkthrough and practice of each station.

CPAT Practice Test is a timed attempt at the full course. CPAT Practice Test results cannot be used in lieu of the official CPAT Test.

CPAT Test (December 12th and 13th, 2026) is the official timed International Association of Firefighters (IAFF)/International Association of Fire Chiefs (IAFC) Candidate Physical Ability Test© (CPAT). Successful completion of this test is required to apply with member departments of the Montana Firefighter Testing Consortium.
